What is Unkai?
You may have heard the name Unkai, but it’s difficult to specifically explain what it is. Unkai refers to the scenery where clouds spread out like a sea when viewed from high places such as mountains or airplanes. It is called "Unkai" because the mountains appear to be islands peeking out from the clouds.
Such Unkai occurs under very limited conditions. It is mainly seen in spring and autumn, and requires little wind and clear skies from before dawn to early morning, as well as high humidity. It can be seen when detailed conditions overlap, such as a temperature difference between the previous night's temperature and the early morning temperature of the following day.
