Official Qualifying and 3-Hour Endurance Race Report

【#2 Shiden Team Lotus 2-11】takes pole position with a Course Record!

2010 "JOY TAI" July 10th (Sat) Official Qualifying and 3-Hour Endurance Race Report "Joy Tai" celebrated its 10th anniversary. In 2010, the number of registered drivers increased from 2 to 5, making it easier and more enjoyable for more people to participate.

On July 10th (Sat), the official qualifying was held under a clear blue sky, making it extremely hot. In this heat, each team's A driver entered the time attack. Divided into two groups for each class, the 30-minute session was run once by both the A and B drivers, with the fastest time reflected on the grid.

The B driver of Group 2, the final session of qualifying, began their attack. Under harsh conditions with the track temperature exceeding 50 degrees, Hiroki Kato of A4 class 【#2 Shiden Team Lotus 2-11】marked a time of 2 minutes 12.417 seconds and secured pole position.
"(Mobility Resort Motegi) is where I last raced in 2009 during the Lotus Cup, but since the machine has good qualities, I was able to secure pole position. The fuel efficiency isn’t great, so for the final on July 11th (Sun), I want everyone to enjoy the race while feeling the tension. It would be perfect if we get a good position, but my main goal is to enjoy receiving the checkered flag without any trouble," said driver Kato.

The #83 HONDA NSX in B5 class topped with a time of 2:12.916, followed by the #40 Holiday Auto x Riduka YH-EG6 in B4 class with a time of 2:14.632, and the #199 KRac & Kurosawa Automobile Civic in B3 class with a time of 2:16.458.

After the official qualifying session, the "JOY TAI" 3-hour endurance race was held as scheduled at 14:15. Although 5 cars were entered, the #70 M Sports Tiger S2000 did not make it to the grid due to mechanical issues. The remaining 4 cars started cleanly and aimed for the finish after 3 hours.

Starting from pole position, the #78 Cars Hitachi Minami Car Tech Civic entered the first corner first, followed by the #28 Forward Racing BMW M3, which started from the third grid position, in second place. Then, between corners 4 and 5, the #28 Forward Racing BMW M3 overtook the #78 Cars Hitachi Minami Car Tech Civic to take the lead. However, after 23 minutes had passed, the #28 Forward Racing BMW M3 pitted for refueling. The #78 Cars Hitachi Minami Car Tech Civic regained the lead and pulled away with a dominant performance. Although they had established a solid position, they slowed down due to running out of fuel after completing two more laps than planned with 50 minutes remaining.
The car stopped on the inside of the 90-degree corner, and it seemed all was lost for a moment, but the officials desperately pushed the car, and somehow it reached the refueling area. After refueling, it returned to the course while maintaining the lead. It received the checkered flag as it was, and the #78 Cars Hitachi Minami Cartec Civic won the 3-hour endurance race for the first time in two years.
The gap to 2nd place 【#171 NWR Civic SPM】 was only 1.176 seconds. 【#28 Forward Racing BMW M3】 also finished 3rd on the same lap. Unfortunately, 【#37 CRUX Oyako MAC】, despite the parent-child power, retired from the race.
