In 2009, the season of "Mote Endurance" has arrived. On July 19th (Sun), the official qualifying was held and the starting grid was determined by the combined time of the first and second riders with domestic licenses.
The rain that had been falling until morning has stopped, and it became a time attack in hot and humid conditions.
In 2009, the timetable alternated sessions between "Mote Tai Masters" and "Open Mote Tai." Free practice started at 10 a.m., and from noon, the official qualifying for the first rider of "Mote Tai Masters" began.
The top spot here was claimed by Akira Kaminaga of [#10 WITH ME RACING], who recorded a time of 2 minutes 01.120 seconds. Jun Funahashi of [#67 Riding Sports & Fire], who set his personal best time of 2 minutes 01.147 seconds on the checker lap, rose from fifth to second place. Yukihiro Sasaki of [#24 2Rinkan RT & DFR], who had briefly held the top position, was third with 2 minutes 01.277 seconds. Following were Takahito Ueda of [#95 BOON! Companion!] with 2 minutes 01.289 seconds, and Takahito Kuga of [#2 2Rinkan R.T] with 2 minutes 01.724 seconds, all marking times in the 2 minutes 01 seconds range.
After sessions for the 3rd and 4th riders, the time attack for the 2nd riders was also held. However, the top 5 rankings remained unchanged, and [#10 WITH ME RACING] secured the pole position for the "Mote Tai Masters." However, the 2nd rider of [#10 WITH ME RACING], Hiroshi Maruyama, was involved in an accident at the hairpin, resulting in only one measured lap.
A topic of interest is Tetsu Ukawa, who has also been active in MotoGP™ and holds the record for the most wins in the “Coca-Cola Zero” Suzuka 8 hours. He entered from [#30 RC30 & BLUE EYES]. In the sessions for the 3rd and 4th riders, he marked a time of 2 minutes 00.901 seconds, showing a glimpse of his ability.
The "Open Mote Endurance" qualifying race, in which 76 bikes participated, will start from the second rider's session according to the timetable. The first-time participant, [#21 SP3 & Amphini & Madoka Design], took the top spot and secured pole position. Although the first rider of [#705 Matsumoto Clinic Garage Speed], Takehiko Kurokawa, marked an astonishing time of 2 minutes and 22.300 seconds, it was not enough to beat the combined time and they ended up in second place. In third place was [#49 Motor Life Wing Stone], followed by [#1 Bulldock Tagos & Haruman], [#62 TEAM Utashiro & T Corps ★ Tatsurin] in fifth place, and [#23 Moto Clutch & WAKO'S] in sixth place, all with a close margin.
Each team will check their fuel efficiency, machine, and riding, and look ahead to the final race in about a month. The "Mote Tai Masters" will be held on August 22nd (Sat) and the "Open Mote Tai" will be held on August 23rd (Sun), each lasting 7 hours.
