August 24th (Sat) Race Report

【#103 NMC × ATJ Racing】takes pole position for the second consecutive year with an impressive time!

2019 "Mote tai" August 24th (Sat) Race Report The Saturday final race, which became a dramatic development, was won by [#51 Koshu Army Corps Nichihara Equipment & #51 Massan], advancing to the 7-hour endurance race!

This year, the 22nd edition of the 2019 Motegi Open 7-hour endurance road race "Mote tai" will be held on August 24th (Sat) and 25th (Sun). On the 24th (Sat), the official qualifying will be held from 8am, and the grid will be determined by the combined time of the first and second riders. Despite the rain that fell until the morning, the track quickly dried up and the first rider in Group A, #103 NMC × ATJ Racing's Kazuki Tomita, set an astonishing time of 2 minutes and 11.479 seconds, shaving off about 3 seconds from the previous course record.

"I thought I could get into the 12-second range if I put on new tires because I was running in the 13-second range during Friday's practice. When I got my best time, I used the slipstream of another car on the last straight, but other than that, I was running alone. Last year, I was passed at the end, so I want to set the fastest lap in the race as well," said Kazuki Tomita.

The second Rider, Nobumichi Tomita, recorded a time of 2 minutes 16.301 seconds. The combined time was 4 minutes 27.780 seconds, securing pole position with a large margin over second place.
"We were able to reduce the weight by about 8 kg compared to last year, and we have also refined the fuel efficiency. All the Riders are consistently fast, so we definitely want to aim for the victory," said Manager Murasawa confidently.

2nd place: [#33 Shinkensetsu & YMproject] with a time of 4:30.523, 3rd place: [#9 'Summit' No.2 Moto Champ & SE] with a time of 4:30.591, 4th place: [#8 'Summit' No.1 Moto Champ & SE] with a time of 4:31.216, 5th place: [#57 Vesla Racing with Braking Girls] with a time of 4:31.834, 6th place: [#34 Mote Kitazakura Same Soukai + Hasegawa Tekkin] with a time of 4:31.879, 7th place: [#32 team SANMEI] with a time of 4:32.589, 8th place: [#13 Team KYOEI A Team] with a time of 4:32.976, 9th place: [#31 Presto, G3 & N-PLAN] with a time of 4:33.813, and 10th place: [#88 MSTV WITH ME CBR250RR] with a time of 4:34.471.

The Saturday final race was contested for 3 hours as a consolation race. [#51 Koshu Army Corps Hihara Facilities & #51 Massan] initially led the race, but rain started to fall after 30 minutes. The rain, like a squall, quickly wet the road and turned it into wet conditions. The teams that pitted in at this point and those that continued to run had conflicting strategies. The rain soon stopped and the road gradually dried up.

Just after an hour and a half, which was the halfway point of the race, the top runner [#121 CLUB MASSA-R] crashed. Although they restarted, they fell far behind.

With 1 hour remaining, the leader was [#76 Team Garinko II]. Following closely behind by 0.312 seconds was [#51 Koshu Army Corps Hihara Facilities & #51 Massan], who then immediately pitted. [#81 Kitokito RT Bokkosuna] moved up to second place. When [#76 Team Garinko II] pitted with 40 minutes left, [#81 Kitokito RT Bokkosuna] took the lead. At the time [#76 Team Garinko II] rejoined the course, there was a gap of over 1 minute and 38 seconds behind [#81 Kitokito RT Bokkosuna]. Behind them, [#51 Koshu Army Corps Hihara Facilities & #51 Massan] was closing in, just 6.449 seconds back. Then, with 25 minutes remaining, [#51 Koshu Army Corps Hihara Facilities & #51 Massan] overtook [#76 Team Garinko II] to move up to second place. [#76 Team Garinko II], now in third, closely marked [#51 Koshu Army Corps Hihara Facilities & #51 Massan]. The two teams battled at a pace in the 2 minutes 25 seconds range. Meanwhile, the leader [#81 Kitokito RT Bokkosuna], leveraging good fuel efficiency, had limited pit stops to two, but when it rained, they switched to rain tires and continued running on them. Because of this, they could not increase their pace and with just 3 minutes remaining, they were overtaken by both [#51 Koshu Army Corps Hihara Facilities & #51 Massan] and [#76 Team Garinko II], dropping to third place. The final showdown for the lead was between [#51 Koshu Army Corps Hihara Facilities & #51 Massan] and [#76 Team Garinko II]. Although there was a moment when [#76 Team Garinko II] took the front, [#51 Koshu Army Corps Hihara Facilities & #51 Massan] surged ahead to the finish line. They brilliantly won the 3-hour battle and secured their advancement to Sunday’s 7-hour endurance race.
"I believe the reason for our victory was that our first Rider, Taguchi, worked hard in the rain. Taguchi also finished 2nd in last year's consolation race and secured advancement to the 7-hour endurance race. With this, all three Yamanashi teams will be able to compete in the 7-hour endurance race. We will fully enjoy the 7-hour race," said Tetsuya Hihara, team representative and Rider.

Team #76 Garinko II finished in 2nd place, only 0.354 seconds behind. #81 Kitokito RT Bokkosuna put up a good fight and finished in 3rd place, earning a spot on the podium.
