2019 "Mote tai" August 25th (Sun) Race Report

The 22nd "Mote Endurance" 7-hour endurance race will be held on August 25 (Sun) at Twin Ring Motegi, which has become a sunny day. This year, a total of 76 cars (one absent) lined up on the grid and aimed for the checkered flag 7 hours later with a Le Mans-style start.

The 【#103 NMC × ATJ Racing】 starting from pole position showed a good start and took the hole shot, immediately establishing a top solo position. Behind them, 【#34 Mote Kitazakura Good Friends Racing Club + Hasegawa Tekkin】 ran in second place, followed by 【#8 'Summit' First Machine Moto Champ & SE】, 【#9 'Summit' Second Machine Moto Champ & SE】, and 【#57 Vesla Racing with Braking Girls】 with a slight gap behind. Following them were 【#33 Shin Construction & YM Project】, 【#13 Team KYOEI A Team】, 【#30 ATJ Racing】, and 【#31 Presto, G3 & N-PLAN】.

The #103 NMC × ATJ Racing, which leads the race with rider Kazuki Tomita's superior speed, runs at the top. The pair rider had a strategy to increase Tomita's riding time by running shorter. Although they sometimes dropped to second place during pit stops, they quickly returned to the top and continued to lap.

At the 3 hour and 30 minute mark, which is also the halfway point of the race, [#103 NMC × ATJ Racing] was leading with 87 laps, followed by [#57 Vesla Racing with Female Brakes] with a 2 minute and 11 second gap. Behind them, [#1 YSS Racing × MGR. Racing Service] was 1 lap behind, followed by [#33 Shin Construction & YM Project] and [#21 NR Project Takahashi RS Gumcho] with a 2 lap gap.

[#103 NMC × ATJ Racing] had to increase their number of pit stops by one due to fuel efficiency issues and changed their strategy. Rider Kazuki Tomita was able to ride longer, but... there was an overtaking in a yellow flag zone, resulting in a regrettable penalty. They had to serve a 180-second pit stop.

Still, the race development was still uncertain. At the point of 1 hour remaining, 【#57 Vesla Racing with Braking Girls】 was pulling away from 2nd place. At this point, there were 6 refueling stops, and it was a matter of whether or not there would be one more. In 2nd place was 【#1 YSS Racing × MGR. Racing Service】, but when they entered the pit for refueling, 【#103 NMC × ATJ Racing】 rose to 2nd place. They were 2 laps behind the leader, 【#57 Vesla Racing with Braking Girls】. 【#8 'Top' First Machine Moto Champ & SE】 and 【#1 YSS Racing × MGR. Racing Service】 were also on the same lap as 【#103 NMC × ATJ Racing】, and if anything were to happen, the positions would change immediately.

With 35 minutes remaining, 【#57 Vesla Racing with Braking Girls】 made a pit stop for their 7th refueling. 【#103 NMC × ATJ Racing】’s international Rider Naohiro Nakatsuhara pushed hard at this crucial moment. In response, 【#57 Vesla Racing with Braking Girls】 returned to the course still in the lead, with Rider Koichi Endo showing determination. The gap was 31.233 seconds. This gap steadily closed to 25 seconds, 23 seconds, and 21 seconds, and with 3 minutes left, it had shrunk to 8 seconds. Only 2 laps remained. The escaping 【#57 Vesla Racing with Braking Girls】 and the chasing 【#103 NMC × ATJ Racing】 created the most exciting moment after 7 hours had passed. This battle ended with 【#57 Vesla Racing with Braking Girls】 holding on to win the checkered flag. 【#103 NMC × ATJ Racing】 finished in 2nd place, just 2.465 seconds behind.
"We planned to make 6 pit stops, but unexpectedly poor fuel efficiency forced us to make 7 stops, so it was nerve-wracking. Since Takayuki Miyamoto, who had been racing with us until now, passed away from illness in February, the entire team was united with the determination to win no matter what," said Endo from 【#57 Vesla Racing with Braking Girls】. Meanwhile, Murazawa, the director of 【#103 NMC × ATJ Racing】, who finished a close second, commented, "Fuel efficiency was worse than expected, so we added one more refueling stop, but at that time we changed the fuel map, allowing Kazuki Tomita to extend his stint. It seems that during that time, there was an overtaking under yellow flag. We were aiming for 172 laps, and although it's just speculation, I believe it would have been fully possible without the penalty."

3rd place [#8 'Top' First Machine Moto Champ & SE], 4th place [#1 YSS Racing × MGR. Racing Service] marked 171 laps, the same as the top. 5th place [#13 Team KYOEI A Team], 6th place [#33 Shin Construction & YM Project], 7th place [#32 team SANMEI], 8th place [#34 Mote Kitazakura Good Friends Running Club + Hasegawa Reinforcing Steel], 9th place [#31 Presto, G3 & N-PLAN] and WT class followed. 10th place [#62 CLUB MASSA-R] won NST-R25, 13th place [#135 B.S.C with Young machine] won NST-G310R, 16th place [#61 Nakamura Engine Research Institute] won NST-CBR, 23rd place [#932 APPRISE Akutsu Automobile Yumomi] won NST-Ninja250, 28th place [#69 Riding Sports Fire 69] won WT, 35th place [#38 Webike + Nabegi] won NST-VTR/AS, 69th place [#12 CLUB1.2FK Kusitani Kawaguchi Store] won BRAVE in each class.

Many teams enjoyed "Mote tai" in their own stance this year as well. The fact that the safety car did not enter is evidence of everyone's improved manners. Let's meet again next year at "Mote tai"!
